real estate photographer AND agent?

Question

how does this not occur more? I can do both, but hadn't really thought of it.

is there no benefit? does it really only cause more work for me and not really any added value to the client?

@Matthew Sharman I just hired a real estate photographer and he made my boring apartment buildings look gorgeous. Which is not something I’ve been able to accomplish using the tools I’ve had available to me.

I’d focus on being the best realtor possible and leave the photography to someone else who is specifically focused on that.

My job as a real estate photographer is to show your listings so well in the MLS that you get more showings and hopefully multiple offers on the home (often leading to bidding wars). In my case it involves a lot of expensive equipment, knowledge of flambient photography, a mastering of Photoshop, and a lot of patience for processing multiple exposures plus flash for a single finished photo. Plus then there's getting that FAA Remote Pilots License for drone shots, and investing in my 3D Virtual Tour setup. I have to agree with David on this one... best to focus on your primary business first as being a good real estate photographer will certainly eat up your most valuable resource... time.

Usually, the listing agent pays for the photographer, so the value to the client is already added. In my opinion, if you are trying to scale your operation, it's better to outsource so you can focus solely on acquiring more listings and not worry about learning how to properly take real estate photos and edit them.
