Getting Family on your side

in being my first investment adventure, I thought everyone in my family (wife, daughter and son-in law, even my parents) could see what an incredible opportunity this was. My wife love HGTV. Everyone said they would love to do something like that. But when I finally made the jump, it was full on court press. They could not see the vision.

Do not get me wrong, they have helped me. But they lost interest quick. Spending weekends doing the work did not last long. Other things took priority.  Through it all, my wife has been great about it even though she did not want to do it. I drug her along.

Thing is I wanted a legacy for my family but I am the only one at this point. I have to learn better ways to accomplish this without the need for help from family. I find I need to communicate more and better with my wife. My decision affect her. That is on of my goals this year to improve.

I would love to hear of others who have been through similar situations.

I think it has to be something you handle on your own (or with investor community!) my wife acknowledges the benefits, but would rather have a larger nest egg or S&P liquid investments vs. commercial real estate, so I basically have to double up savings before firing away.

Bottom line, have to communicate and decide on a compromise investment strategy that is sustainable for the long term. Don't resent your spouse for not sharing your vision, I imagine they sacrifice a lot of other things for the family and shouldnt be expected to also spend weekends painting, driving to HD, etc.
