Multiple winners are fine with me as long as I one of them ! I can still do some serious damage with tens of million of dollars for R.E. investing......... :)

Be careful on your way to get your ticket...odds of being struck by lightning? 1/1,000,000. You're more likely to be struck by lightning than win the big one!

Jon Holdman gives the exact "mathematical science" of Gambling Odds. But I really don't think that addresses the issue for the individual. Sure, you have a 1 in 176,000,000 chance of winning, but you also have a 175,999,999 in 176,000,000 chance of losing.
Instead of buying lottery tickets, lets say you invest just $20.00 a week. At 5%, in 40 years you have $131,900 and at 10%, you have $506,300.
The psychological question is this, "Do you get more enjoyment out of hoping for a lottery win with that dollar spent or would you get more enjoyment out of investing that dollar." The truth is, you would get more BENEFIT using that dollar to start a fire in your fireplace than you get by buying a lottery ticket.
I used to buy lottery tickets, many years ago, even got five out of six in the California lottery and won $2,000.00. But doing the financial analysis, I found I was just putting my money through the shredder.
