Reddit sucks. Best forums on general topics out there?

I've found that the reading comprehension and critical thinking skills of most people on Reddit and City Data forums are well below that of the average middle school student. The vast majority opine about things that a quick google search of data shows is inaccurate. That's if they even manage to read the post and understand the question.

Most forums have some level of this, but I've noticed CD and Reddit have bad reputations because it's so rampant there. So what are some good forums where one can get general advice on almost any topic of discussion?

Or is it best to go to topic specific forums that may not be all in one sites like Reddit and City Data??
