Electric Costs
Our local electric company has just applied for permission to raise rates by 20%.
They got a 10% raise just this last fall. They got a 10% raise the year before that, and they got a 10% raise the year before that, and the year before that.
I suppose the federal government does not include the cost of power when they figure inflation? Because they are insisting that there is no inflation. You can tell that they don't shop for their own groceries.
I've already got applicants who are telling me they are moving because the electric bill at their current place is too high. Insulation helps, but most families are going to use a pretty consistant amount of electricity. The bills go up and up even if you aren't using more.
Bigger power bills are going to drive even more tenants into doubling up or returning to their parent's homes.
