Issues with commission amount with main job, any insight??
I work for a construction company and I have mostly trusted the owner to pay me on my commission in the past but there have been a few times when I think I have been shorted in my commission. Essentially how the pay goes for my job is I get 40% of the overall profit and then half of the O&P added to the project.
I'm sure many people on here have worked for commission in the past or present so my question is this.
We just finished a 2.5 million dollar project and my boss keeps citing the 10% comparison because many times this will be around the amount of money I make on jobs. But this particular job we will make a good amount more of profit. He keeps citing me making 250k but I did the math and the overall profit of this job is closed to 850k which ends up me making closer to 340k. I mentioned a bit about this (not including all my math) but he reiterated the 10% being 250k.
Is there anything I can do or should do in this situation? The reason being that I have always been paid 40/60 and this is scaring me a bit especially because it is the biggest job we have had as well as the fact that I don't want to just let him steal almost 100k from me.
He has been a great boss but he does have a bit of a reputation as a greedy/tight person and people make jokes about him that way.
The other time I heard someone say something that made me a bit wary was over a year ago when our team was in Vegas for vacation and one of the crew members said that my boss bragged about how much money he made off me. Wasn't sure if that was because how great of a salesman I am or if that was due to not having due diligence.
Any advice is helpful. Thank you.
