18 Year-Old Looking For Once-Lost Motivation

Luis Canales
Posted

Hey guys! It's Luis here, I'm new to BiggerPockets and I decided to make my first post on here because I've been listening to the podcast. I am currently lacking the motivation to start my Real Estate journey. In January of this year, I bought my online real estate course because I read Rich Dad Poor Dad, but it just seems like a lot. On top of that, I work a Part-Time job and when I come home I just want to rest. So it's making me upset that I can't just make time for my class. I also want to start Real Estate Investing, but I get overwhelmed just thinking about how to buy my first property. Any tips on how to overcome this? I'd truly appreciate it.

Man, don't take this the wrong way, but if you work a part-time job and come home and want to rest at 18 years old, you need to figure out why your energy level is so low. When I was 18 I was a blazing inferno. If I was 18 again and had the money and knowledge I have now, they'd need a fire brigade to douse me out.

You need to get brutally honest with yourself - you can make time for your class, you just don't want to. Figure out why you don't want to make the time for starters. Maybe you just decided that RE is not that interesting. Nothing wrong with that, just quit lying to yourself. Maybe you only give lip service to wanting to do a class because you feel like a fool for buying something that you don't have any real interest in. It's OK to say "You know what? I thought this was something I wanted to do, but I really don't want to do this" and move on to something else.

If you're only interested in RE because you think it might be a way to quick riches without having to work, forget it.

If you really want to invest in RE, you really need some access to money. Work your *** off, save every dollar, use it to buy a duplex/triplex, live in one unit, rent the other. Save money and do it again.
