Do you want to lose $20,000?

In January 2020 my boyfriend called me and asked, "Do you want to lose $20,000?" followed by, "We already have". Questioning whether he had embarked on a new gambling venture, or fallen victim to a sudden robbery, I was shocked when he said our mystery culprit was simply, "RENTING".

From that day forth we dove into the idea of ditching our expensive rental home and making our OWN rental income. Thanks to Covid, we had plenty of new-found down time to research the market, connect with an agent, and of course listen to our daily dose of the Bigger Pockets Podcast. In June, we purchased a side by side 2 family property for $155k in the Central Connecticut Area. We encountered a thorough gauntlet of obstacles including a hidden crawlspace foundation, toxic inherited tenant, every obscure pest imaginable, the works. After $20k and an accelerated degree from Youtube's school of DIY Home Improvement we turned that tired, dirty shell of a house into a true home and a great source of passive income. We raised rent from $875/mo. to $1200/mo. and are currently house hacking. Upon moving out, we will cash flow about $1000/month.

Anyways, I'm Jessica and I am a buy & hold investor, landlord, and recovering renter. I am currently pursuing my Real Estate Agent License and looking for our next deal. I am also a WSET Certified Wine Professional by day, so I'm happy to connect and chat about BRRRR...or Burgundy, anytime. Cheers to BP Nation!
