Hi Everyone - Introduction
Hey everyone,
My name is Clifton Gerring and I am brand spanking new to real estate. I'm from the South Shore area of Massachusetts, currently live near Florence, Alabama but will be relocating to Nashville with my girlfriend come January.
Earlier today I came across Graham Stephan's Youtube channel and instantly became obsessed, watching around 20 videos today alone. I hope to find the time to truly dissect his work and learn from him, and you all. BiggerPockets was mentioned in one of his videos so I checked the site out and by golly is it amazing. I'm hoping to learn as much as I can about rental properties, or other strategies (again I'm brand new so please educate me!) and begin in the business in a few years.
My current situation is quite troubling. I work a low-paying hourly job at a car dealership here in Alabama but the prospect for my future is looking bright. My plan is the following: Switch departments to become an assistant to a car salesman (pay increase too :) ) and learn as much as I can from him until I go back to MA to finish college in the fall. Then, once my girlfriend and I go to Nashville, I want to land a job as a car salesman so I can start earning actual money. During that time, once I'm settled in, I will start real estate school online. While living as frugally as possible, I will be saving and learning as much as possible in order to purchase my first property within a couple years of working. Then, each year following, I want to purchase at least one property a year until the cash flow is enough to quit my job and focus solely on the properties. Then just keep buying and keep building!
As I stated earlier, I just learned about real estate today so this plan is a rough draft but it's what I was able to come up with while I was at work. Let me know what you all think, what you did to start out, and what you wish you knew when starting out. Also, any resources you found to be most helpful, and recommendations on real estate school (TN). Honestly, everything you can think of to say, I am interested in hearing. I will be browsing through the forums too but there is a lot to catch up on so I apologize for any duplicating you may have to endure. Links to different forums would be great as well. Thank you all so much and I am so excited to begin this journey with you all and with myself/girlfriend.
