Is wholesaling real estate a thing out here in Southern, CA?

I’ve come across a Real Estate broker who’s been in the markets for more then 18+ years out here in Southern, California and I’ve tried to bring up a conversation about wholesaling Real Estate and if knew anything about wholesaling RE and he told me he didn’t know anything about it and it was probably a scam that’s been going around then he tried so hard to tell me to get my real estate salesperson license so he can hire me and work as an agent ... I don’t know what think of all this I need some advice especially from someone who’s in California .
