Hello BP community! My name is Jose Maldonado. I just finished my 4 year enlistment in the U.S. Navy and will be returning to my hometown of Madison, AL.
I fell in love with REI when I worked for Wells Fargo and met many people in the industry. After 4 years of listening to podcasts and reading as many books as possible, I am ready to jump in. My goal is to use the VA loan to house hack a Multi-Family property in the Huntsville/Madison area. If I could do that for my first deal, I think I'll be on solid ground.

@Jose Maldonado awesome! I’m thinking about doing the same thing with my VA loan but in Birmingham. Been lookin at both areas for months now and haven’t seen much as far as 2/3/4 units for sale though. Most of what I‘ve seen In HuntsvIlle were 4 plexes around brandontown/oakwood but have read on here thats not a great area so be prepared for a search. Will be interesting to hear others opinions. Good luck and keep us updated!

Thanks for your service Jose.
You have chosen a great area and house hacking is a win 99 out of 100 times in my book.
Do keep in mind however that the VA is very particular about property conditions for their appraisals. It may be a tougher negotiation on price as the seller would likely need to make repairs to meet VA appraisal conditions prior to the loan closing.

@Jason Grey for sure! I think I will search for mostly move-in ready properties as they are less hassle. Even if I have to pay a little more, at least I will be living in a better property. I hope your investing is going well in the area!
