Newbie in the NJ Area

Hi Everyone! My name is Michael and I am a newbie from NJ. My friend turned me on to Bigger Pockets a couple months ago, so I have been listening to every podcast I possibly can, reading the forums, articles and watching Brandon Turner's webinars for the past couple months. I'm not necessarily new to the website or forums, but I feel ready now to reach out to the community and get involved with all these smart/experienced people.

I currently work full-time in a business development manager role with a security/alarm company. I started to realize that whole thing wasn't for me which is why I started looking at different avenues (I have experience in sales, marketing and operations and would be open to full time positions in the real estate industry to really learn if you have any ideas!). I am definitely committed to real estate investing now as a part time thing to start, with much bigger aspirations.

I'm in the process of writing my goals down, but I definitely want to start with a multi-family house hack as my first investment and continue with multi-family investing as I continue. I have been looking in the Bloomfield, NJ area. I would love to be near the Glen Ridge, Bloomfield or Watsessing train stations ideally since my wife needs to commute to the city. I have a friend that has bought 7 units in Bloomfield in less than 2 years, so I have a lot of motivation to do this. I am going to the meetup in Bloomfield tomorrow morning and already registered for the NJREIA in Hasbrouck Heights in a couple weeks. I am all over NJ with my current job and would be willing to meet up with anyone willing to share your knowledge with me about the NJ multi-family investing fun. I live in Hudson county and my office is in Monmouth County so those are easy areas to meet up as well. Looking forward to what this community has to offer and what I can do to help!

Welcome to the forums Michael! You seem to be doing everything right in taking action and progressing closer to getting in the business. If your friend has bought 7 units correctly I would learn as much from him as possible since he should know all of the smaller things that go into the entire transaction. Good luck!
