Rookie in Houston, TX - Working on my First Investment

Howdy From Houston, TX!

I am currently a Regional Sales Manager for an industrial products company, but my first couple of jobs after college were in residential construction management.  I have recently started listening to the podcasts as I drive around town and have also begun to "obsessively" (in my wives words) read the forums and blog posts in the evening.

My strategy to jump into the world of real estate investing is to begin in my own backyard.  I am working to demolish my detached 2 car garage and build a 2 story 24'x24' 2 bed 1 bath garage apartment to rent out.  I am currently shopping banks and credit unions to find the cheapest loan I can get.  (Any and all advice is welcome!)

I am extremely impressed with how organized, positive, and open the BP community seems to be and I am eager to continue to learn from all the freely shared wisdom. I hope to one day have enough REI wisdom to contribute back to the community!

My goals are to learn more about being a good landlord, and once my first project is complete, taking a shot at BRRR here in Houston.
