House Hacking in Asheville

Hi everyone, my name is Chris and I'm 23 years old and 1 year out of college.  I am on a rotational program for supply chain and am currently living in San Diego. I am looking to get started in real estate and I'm saving up as much money as I can from each paycheck.  I will be moving to the middle of Ohio at the beginning of next year and then to Asheville, North Carolina towards the end of 2018.  I have been listening to a lot of the Biggerpockets podcast and they have really fueled the fire inside of me to get started in real estate investing.  I was wondering what else I could do in the mean time before I move to Asheville permanently to "practice" my real estate investing skills beforehand.  I have ordered a bunch of book on real estate investing, including a bunch from Biggerpockets.  Also I plan to house hack my first property in Asheville as well with a duplex, triplex or quad.  I was wondering if anyone has any advice for me starting out or for my plan in Asheville.

Thanks!!
