New Michigan Investor

Hi. So, I've lurked and listened to podcasts (a lot of them) for the past two weeks. Almost to the point where I hear Brandon's voice in my dreams. I figure I'll start off by saying that I'm ex-Navy and I read Kiyosaki somewhere in the middle of the Pacific ocean, in a 110 degree engine room. That was near the end of my enlistment, during a time when i wasn't sure if i wanted to stay in. It tipped the scales. Or more accurately it obliterated them and made me realize that I don't want to work for someone else's money. Fast forward a year and i've been out almost two months with almost 20k in savings and the option of a VA home loan under my belt. I know that renting, flipping, and in the immediate future, house hacking is what I want I will do. I have no ties to where I live. In fact, I dislike the area. I've been looking and have tentatively decided on the Grand Rapids area of Michigan to buy my first house. A tri or four plex preferably. I currently have no job and to my knowledge even a VA loan requires 30+ hours a week. Before I pack what few things I have and head north I'm in the process of getting job interviews set up. It kills me, but its a means to an end.

tldr; New Grand Rapids investor in search of location knowledge, history, future predictions, advice, and service recommendations
