Kentucky firefighter mind blown by BP

Introduction I am Glen Robinson 34 from Owensboro, Kentucky. I have always been interested in real estate since high school but let college, getting married, joining military and so on get in the way of getting started. I also fell into the trap when speaking to fellow non investors that you need to be rich prior to investing in RE. Now out of the military I work as a DOD firefighter we work a 48hour on shift and 72hour off schedule. It is a great job with a solid salary and retirement, but I felt I wanted more and with 3 days off in the middle of the week I started a lawn service business knowing 0 about how to run a business. I am earning an extra $2500 a month working about 15 hours a week. The thing I have enjoyed the most is learning how to start/run a business doing invoices, marketing, networking, and interacting with the clients. So I have started to think bigger! While at work one night it hit me why don’t I look for a real estate pod cast maybe I can learn how to invest on my 1.5 hour commute. And then it happened I found BiggerPockets and randomly selected Podcast #228 and the guys were interviewing Meghan McMallum who was a former/retired early DOD firefighter. Holy sh*t I felt it was a sign from up above. That was 2 weeks ago today and I feel my life has turned upside down in a good way. I have now listened to 18 podcast and today enrolled using my GI Bill into an online college real estate program where I will earn $800 a month stipend while learning about real estate. I am going to save up my lawn service and GI Bill money up and have a goal to buy my first investment property at the start of 2018. I have totally immersed myself into BP, feeling a little overwhelmed but reading all the post listening to all the super successful people on this site is helping. Sorry for such a long intro but it has been therapeutic getting all these thoughts out. Been on Facebook since 06 and have made about 3 post lol.

@Glen Robinson

First off thank you for your service.  Also being a firefighter is a courageous job and takes someone special to be in that line of work.

As far as investing goes, read some books, continue listening to pod casts, and attend any local networking events you can find.  This will help you decide what type of investing works best for you.  Any questions feel free to ask.  I wish you nothing but the best!
