Hi folks! I'm new to this real estate thing. I've spent the last few months researching, crunching numbers, and planning my first move. In the midst of my first duplex purchase. I currently rent one side and worked out a deal with my landlord to buy. So I'm gonna stay in my half and keep renting to my current neighbor. Hoping to learn a lot of the course of the next year - tax implications, what it means to be a landlord, how to sharpen my budgeting, and etc.

Welcome and congratulations! That is a fantastic way to get started.
I'm on the south side too. Perhaps we should start a south side meetup, unless there is one already and I haven't heard about it yet?!

That's exactly how I started out...I built a duplex and moved into one side and rented the other! Where are you located? I have several units on the south side of Indy (greenwood) as well...welcome!

I think a meet up would be great! I'm in Franklin.
Also, I found that there's a landlord association for Bartholomew County. I was looking at the website a week or so ago. I think I saw they were having an event on March 2rd.. Can't remember where I saw that now. I think I'll go check that out assuming I can find the details again :)

Welcome... I am from Franklin and live in Greenwood. Just put my offer in on my first property as well and it is in Franklin. A Franklin/Greenwood meetup would be great... I think the guys that run Ram investing (http://ramsinvesting.com/) might have something but have not been able to nail it down.
Thanks for the welcome. Nice to hear of another investor in the area. Let me do some thinking and I'll come back with a meet up idea so we can all get together and chat. There's some definite interest among the folks how have responded to my intro post. Thanks again, everyone, for the warm welcome!
It's seems we're all pretty open to the idea of a Southside meet up. Let's make it happen!
Here's what I propose:
Saturday April 22nd, 930am - 1030am, McDonalds off of i65 in Franklin (2080 E King St, Franklin, IN 46131)
For this first meet up, it'd be cool to simply meet everyone and have everyone introduce themselves. As a part of the self-introductions, it'd be great to hear about each persons involvement in real estate and maybe some of their goals / reasons for choosing real estate as an investment vehicle.
My hope is that we can get to know each other and make some new friends and contacts. I imagine the introductions will spur some great questions and conversations, but in the interest of time I'll try to guide us so that everyone gets to introduce themselves before the hour is over. Also, before the hour is over, we can discuss if / when / where we'd like to meet again. What do you all think? Sound like a reasonable first meet up?
.. We don't have to meet at a McDonalds again for the next one haha. Just thought this might give us some room to sit and chat versus Starbucks or Benjamin's coffee, both of which are very crowded.
I want to change direction a bit for this first meet up. Above you'll see I posted a time and location to get together. I've thought about this again and realize that posting the time and location publicly on the forum might not have been the best idea. So, let's go a different direction here and plan this "offline".
Can those of you interested in meeting up send me a direct message? We can exchange email addresses and get a email chain going about a new time and place to meet.
Also, I've been in touch with a few other, more experienced, small group leaders who have shown interest in helping us on the south side develop a more official meet up!

Did anything ever come of this? I'm from Greenwood, currently stacking some cash and prepping to find a duplex/triplex/fourplex to house hack in early 2020 and eyeing up some of the neighborhoods close to downtown Indy.
