New to Real Estate from Houston, TX

Hello Bigger Pockets Community,

I am new to the BP community and the real estate investing arena. My current interest is in the Houston, TX market, but who knows what the future holds regarding expansion. My aunt, who was a real estate broker was instrumental in sharing with me the importance of earning income and creating passive streams through real estate investing. Unfortunately, she suddenly passed away December 12, 2016 and this really forced me to think about my future journey.

Through my research, I discovered the BP community and have listened to podcasts, watched webinars, and read suggested readings, which informed me tremendously. I recently acquired a SFH 2/1 requiring rehab, which will be my introduction to REI. My goal is to gain experience from this process transitioning into acquiring at least 1 SFH 3/2 this year for the purpose of buy and hold. I am taking the "start slow grow big" approach. I look forward to continued education and networking with the BP community. I wish everyone successful investing!

Best Regards,

Tracie Mathis

@Michael Lee Thanks for all of the information that you shared!  I do not have a W-2 job and I will be pursuing this full-time.  I have created a system that I will follow each day to ensure that I am meeting the goals that I have set.  I will be doing some of the work myself along with contractors.

Houston is definitely growing.  There are thousands of people transitioning here each month.  The issue is narrowing down the best niche to serve and how to serve it.  I have been working on building my team consisting of lenders, attorney, CPA, realtor, etc.  I appreciate the information about trusting others, I am definitely being as careful as I can.  Once again, I truly appreciate the information.  I wish you the best!
