Curious about Investing

Hi everyone!  I heard about Bigger Pockets through some YouTube videos.  

I'm currently a doctoral student in Early Childhood Education at Portland State University.  I'm curious about owning an investment property as a means of generating income and wealth, because I definitely didn't choose a field that helps with that!  As a doctoral student, I still want to continue doing research and consulting with schools, but I want to see if real estate investing is for me.
