Hello BP,

I am a newbie from Chatsworth, California. My name is Jolene Blazey and an unfortunate situation is what sparked my interest in real estate. Long story short, my mother’s home was going to auction because of a loan my brother took out on the property and defaulted on. I was thrown into this situation, in an area I didn’t know a thing about, which was quite frustrating. But the one part I did understand, and was clear as day, was the fact that the loan was $300K and the property was worth around 600K and someone could potentially be making a very nice profit. That just blew my mind and I thought, “is this something that happens all the time? Can you really make that much money on a property because of someones misfortune?”

Since then, just about a month later, I have read “The Book on Flipping Houses” and am now reading “How to Invest with no (or low) Money Down.” I have been speaking to agents, looking at properties, and as crazy as this may sound, already looking for my first property to flip.

I am the type of person that learns best by just being thrown into a situation and figuring things out as I go along and being challenged and making mistakes and learning from them. I also listen to several podcasts and now I am here on BP and loving it. I look forward to making new friends here, networking, and potentially working with some of you here in the near future.
