New member from Northern VA
Hello everybody,
My name is Joel, I am brand new to BP! My wife and I are building up our first asset, a small business. We own a chicken farm here in Loudoun County, VA and are raising three small children.
We hope to begin investing part time in small multi-family rental properties come 2017. Our goal with RE investing is to create enough passive income in 10 years to fund our desired lifestyle. I know "Desired Lifestyle" is not very specific, but we have financial parameters that define it for us. Basically, it boils down to having the ability to choose whether we work a job or not. For now, we are reading gobs of RE related material and trying to familiarize ourselves with this community and all the knowledge in the forums, blog posts, and webinars! We are researching our area for the ideal investment neighborhoods in a 50 mile radius of home, and analyzing deals when we see them.
Background:
I helped with some renovations on a couple flips, but had no investment in the properties.
We own our single family 4 bedroom home on 1/2 acre that we plan on keeping and renting out if we move.
I worked in the construction industry for many years, first in residential and then in capital commercial construction. I believe this experience will give me an edge in dealing with contractors, inspecting jobs, and putting together scopes of work for projects on our properties.

Thank you for the reply. The 'sharecrop" idea sounds cool. It is great to see a local RE agent so active and responsive.
