Newbie - Living in Minot, ND originally from Plainfield, NJ
Hello Everyone,
My name is Oscar Buendia and 26 years old. I have no real background in real estate other than the fact that I helped my family buy their first home when I was about 17, which is what initially sparked my interest. I was born in Colombia (South America), raised in Plainfield, NJ, and currently living in Minot, ND. After High School I enlisted in the USAF because I wanted to see the world and help take care of my family. I ended up doing AFROTC a couple of years later and became an Officer in the USAF. I have been assigned to Minot AFB ever since. Recently married and my wife is on board with the real estate ideas that I constantly write down and tell her about in the middle of the night lol.
My goals in real estate are to own my first investment property within a year of now, and to own 3-5 within 3 years (with good cashflow of at least 400 each). I've been reading a lot and the forms of real estate that interest me the most are wholesaling and buy and hold. I'm open to single family, multi units, etc... I like to crunch numbers and love the bigger pockets calculators.
So how did I find biggerpockets? Honestly I just googled "real estate forums" because I wanted to talk to people and ask questions and there it was biggerpockets.com. So far the site looks great.
A little background of where I stand investing wise:
I want to get started ASAP but I may be PCSing (moving to another base) this coming summer and won't find out until January where I'm going or if I am even leaving. Thats is why I am trying to decide on the best action to take. Whether to wait and use my VA loan wherever I go next? or to start here (ND) by using investment loans at higher % APR? FHA? I wouldn't be able to move in because I have lease at my current apartment. In the meantime I am trying to educate myself with books, and I even decided to do the rich dad coaching (I'm open minded to learning and if the program doesn't teach much then I learn my lesson).
I look forward to posting and getting to know many of you!
