New in San Francisco

Hello everyone,

I'm Rebecca, 37 yrs old from San Francisco, and I just joined the BP community this afternoon in order to learn more about the real estate market and investing in real estate.  After living in SF for 7 years as a renter, I now find myself having built up no assets and I want to change that.

I see apartments all around me being rented on AirBnB for ~$300-$400 per night, and I now question being in a place with such a strict policy around no sublets, making it all the more apparent that my money is going out the door each month.

So here are my general goals:

  • Own properties that can earn revenue (rental, AirBnB).
  • Buy land in Baja Mexico to build a home for vacation, rental, retirement.
  • Learn more about flipping properties and houses to see if it is something I'd ever be interested in doing.

Before making any decisions, I want to become more educated since I don't really know much about real estate, or what I can do in my situation.  I have some cash saved, but I am an entrepreneur, so I go in and out of periods where I am not paying myself (the part they don't tell you about the glorious life of a tech founder).  This is probably not a great record for banks to see, but I hope it will eventually stabilize.

Looking forward to learning a lot from this site, and potentially meeting others in the area, including possible mentors.  I'm sure my vision will be solidified once I learn more about the space.

Pleasure to e-meet you!

Rebecca
