The New Jersey Guy

Hello everyone I’d like to take this time to officially introduce myself to the Bigger Pockets community after finally getting around to creating a profile.  My name is Jason, I’m in my late 20’s and I am a newbie looking to absorb as much information on becoming a real estate investor (possibly buy and hold rental properties.)

I currently live in Northern New Jersey, more specifically Jersey City, NJ. I’ve been looking to purchase my first property on and off for the past year; however, I’ve had cold feet due to my current lack of real estate education.  So boy was I happy when I found this site while googling.

So far I’ve started by reading the Bigger Pockets’ “Start Here” page, the “Ultimate Beginner’s Guide”, set up my keyword alerts and I’m trying to catch up to the current podcast. (My family keeps looking at my funny because I’m constantly walking around the house with headphones on.

Here are some of my goals;

6months- 1 year

-       Learn as much as I can.

-       Purchase my first property. As of now, I'm planning to (as Brandon Turner calls it) "Hack" a 2-4-unit owner occupied property, utilizing a VA zero % down loan.

2 years and beyond;

-       Continue learning.

-       Find my niche

-       Obtain more properties

-       Establish a real estate related business

-       Retire from my 9-5 as soon as I qualify for my pension (17 years from now)

-       Have more free time to spend with family and friends

I’d like to thank everyone for establishing such an informative resource for newbies like myself and I look forward to interacting with you all.

Jay
