First BP post!
Greetings BP,
I'm James Williams and am very happy to be here with you. I am so excited that I don't really know where to start! I have a commitment to doing this and doing it well; however, I know almost nothing. I have the UBG and all of the podcast downloaded and listen or read daily. I have a few books as well and am ready to move forward, even though I know I am not ready.
I recently had a life change that led me here. For the last 6 years I have been preparing to open a restaurant. I guess I got burned out on all of the ins and outs of opening and when I finally had a chance to rest and think clear, I decided to put the restaurant on hold. My plan was to do the restaurant first, REI second and explore there rest after I was in position to not have to work my 9-5. My mentor has been in real estate since the 80's and after they recently open a restaurant, they persuaded me to do the REI first from first hand experience.
My promise to you: I will never ask you a question without researching it first, but there are so many things to learn I may need to ask a seemingly general question to point me in the right direction from time to time (weekly). I will not just lurk like I have done on other forums. There is something very different about bigger pockets that seems unlike any other forums. Everyone is so great about helping and I am thankful for that. This is really a great place to get started, continue to grow, and help others.
Long story short, thank you to all of the people that make this place great. Some of you have met my wife, @Crystal Williams. We are in it for the long run and look forward to being a pillar of BP one day.

Welcome fellow Bigger Pockets member! This is a great forum and I am sure it will help you learn many facets of the real estate investment world. I purchased my first investment property over 40 years ago and only wish that I had a resource like BP community when I got started! So you are in a good company.
Some say that your net-worth equals your network, and this is the place to make right connections. You should also find investors locally and network with them face-to-face. Find people close to you using MEET feature, also look for investor meetings on Meetup.
