New Investor from Mesa, Arizona

My name is Marcus and I am new to real estate investing. I currently live in Mesa, Arizona where my wife and I are both from. I work at a hospital as a Registered Nurse but I have been looking for ways to leave my job for the past year or two because I need to get out of the rat race. I always thought I might own one or two investment properties but my focus up until recently was on becoming an entrepreneur so I could leave my day job. While I still like the idea of starting my own business, I have realized real estate investing is more in line with my abilities and background (my dad is a real estate developer and I did most of the rehab on our current home). My short term goal right now is to buy my first property and either rent it out for a positive cash flow or do a flip. Long term, my goal is to build the relationships and skills I need in order to create a property portfolio that will replace my current income and continue to grow.

I have found the information on BiggerPockets very helpful so far (especially the podcast). I am looking forward to joining in on the conversation and learning from others on the forum. I am also especially looking forward to networking with others in my area through the forum.
