Aloha!

Aloha from Hawaii! My name is Vasana. I grew up and currently live in Honolulu but spent over a decade in New York City working as a tax accountant. I moved back to Hawaii in 2012 to be closer to my parents, my elderly grandmother, and our 14 year old beagle! I feel very lucky to call Hawaii my home but I'm truly a big city girl, so New York holds a very special place in my heart.

I have been buying and renting out apartment units for the last 15 years but I consider myself an "accidental" investor because I'd buy properties to live in, rent them to move somewhere else, then I'd sell a unit to purchase another one to live in. Right now, I own two apartments - one in Honolulu and another in Hoboken, NJ (which is currently in contract to be sold).

Since I'm helping to take care of my family but my income is much lower than it was in NYC, I'm shifting my focus to building wealth and becoming an "intentional" real estate investor.

I'd like to get started with flipping properties but am also interested in other avenues like wholesaling, tax liens, multifamily units, and eventually more buy-and-hold properties.

I found Bigger Pockets last month and have been on the site nonstop since then! I listen to the podcasts in my car everyday and have learned so much just during my commute.

I hope to connect and network with other people on this site. Thank you for creating and contributing your time and energy here. I'm grateful for being a part of this community!

Welcome! As you look into those investing strategies you talked about (flipping, etc), you'll probably find that profitable deals are hard to come across - but not impossible! Work hard and you'll find something that works.
