Meet the new guy from Houston, TX

Just getting started with trying to learn more about real estate investing. I have a decent sized equity portfolio and one of my big goals for 2014 is to learn more and purchase at least one rental property to try and further diversify my income sources. For the first property my wife and I are looking to purchase locally, Houston preferably the north side, so we can keep an eye on it if we feel the need to go check it out. We're looking at having a property manager to handle most of the work after the purchase has been completed. I know we've got a lot to learn before we jump in, but I've heard great things about BP.
