Got a mechanical engineer staying in of my places. He's from Houston, originally from India. He gets a ride from co-workers to and from his place of employment. Before he came here, he asked about renting a vehicle from me. I left my F150 with mud tires in his driveway. It seats one. Toolboxes take up the other 3 seats. I told him I removed all the firearms and left the ignition key above the drivers sun visor. I think he was too intimidated by it, and wanted a car. My wife has a Grand Prix. She's put about 500 miles on it in the last 10 years. She's all for renting it to the guy.
How much should we charge? He doesn't know how long he'll be here.

I’ve thought of purchasing a 4 seat RZR, registering it for on-road travel, and renting to people who come for a week to my rentals in the smokies. Local places charge $450+ per day. Could be a nice gig if I can get the right liability insurance. I bet that could be a nice revenue stream for you Paul. High paid blue collar workers would love a RZR Turbo S to zip around town in.

@Paul Sandhu make sure the insurance covers it. You can go through turo.com to see typical rates. They are a car sharing company. You might consider a deposit to cover the deductible if he crashes but frankly what you do probably depends on what the car is worth. you could have a you break it you bought it policy. I wouldn't do it because I have too much experience with car crashers and they are alot more expensive they party crashers.

Hell, I'd do it Paul. If he doesn't trash your STR he's probably ok with your ride. First number that popped into my head for that older Pontiac was $30 / day.

Ya, insurance is the biggest hurdle but mileage, wear, and tear is also something to consider. With Covid you may need to think about how to sanitize up to required standards. Also, if anything nasty, hazmat, or criminal happens in the vehicle, make sure you're covered. just my opinion.

Three. Super Black Eagle I, Super Black Eagle II, and a small .380. Super Black Eagles are a waterfowl hunting shotgun. Work truck is also a hunting truck.

@Paul Sandhu if it was anyone else I would tell them to not rent their car. Knowing you and your situation, I say go for it. When I travel for business, the cheapest car rentals I can get are $30 a day unlimited miles. That is my corporate rate. I would say for an older car that you should think no less than $20 a day. You could also put it up on Turo and have him book it there and then you get some insurance coverage through them.
Tell him if he wants to look bad @ss he should really drive the truck. That is how you get respect in middle America.

So we went to get the car. It hasn't been driven since the summer of 2018. 2 tires had dry rotted, and they only had 10k miles on them. My wife is all onboard on renting out her car for $30 a day. There isn't any Turo available in a 60 mile radius.

Honestly sounds like a business opportunity. Finance some beaters (or mustangs if you think they have the cash) and put them on turo. Then offer it at a discount to your renters.

This could be a viable plan. Every renter is flush with cash when their job is done and they leave town. They all work at a refinery. People put cars, trailers, campers, boats, off road vehicles and other big ticket items for sale in any spot they can find near the refinery parking lot. I could offer vehicles for rent with the option to purchase. I've had renters that wanted to buy my beds when they left.
