Timeshares and Airbnb???

Bob McEnaney

Does anybody have experience owning a timeshare and renting it out with airbnb? Can it be done? Any 'must haves' or anything to look out for?

I'd appreciate any insights or experience anybody has with this potential stragegy.

Thanks in advance!

@Bob McEnaney First thing I'd do is check and see if there are any regulations forbidding it.  But I agree it's probably not worthwhile - one of the methods AirBNB uses to determine search placement is property availability.  If you list something that only has one week (or so) available in the whole year, it's not going to get a favorable search placement.  You never know, if it's a high-demand week or something like that you might get lucky, but overall I agree you might do better with a Facebook or Craigslist posting.

This is something I'd do if I already owned the timeshare and wasn't going to use it; it's definitely not something I'd do as an investment strategy.
