Best way to find and hire cleaners for STRs

Hello BP community,

We recently bought a property in a regional drivable location. However, we don't live that close. We are about 4 hours by car. The area is a smaller community with nearly 200 STRs. We plan to use our property as a STR, but our biggest concern right now is finding local trustworthy cleaners. Any suggestions on how to best find quality cleaners when you plan to self manage from a distance?

FB Marketplace in addition to groups.

Ask for references. 

Some of the other mentioned methods may have online reviews that you  can check.

You could also ask other local STR operators for recommendations.

    Hey Steve, if it were me I would:

    - Check Google to see if any providers are advertising or you can find a site for them.

    - Reach out to other hosts for recommendations.

    - Check BiggerPockets, you did not tell us where on your post, possibly someone here is located in that market.

    -  Try handy/thumbtack

    - People here have suggested turnoverbnb, I do not have any experience with this service however.

    That should turn up some people!

    Hi Steve, I would look into a few Michigan STR Facebook groups and ask around in there. I just did a quick FB search and found this group.

    Your biggest concern should be market saturation. To find cleaners reach out to airbnb hosts and ask for referrals.

    Turnover bnb, market specific fb groups, Google. Sounds like a small market, call some local hardware stores etc and ask around

    @Steve Bell usually no easy answer and even harder to find trustworthy workers at decent prices.

    So, you'll have to chase every possible source and try out several.

    I have found the two best ways to find someone are Facebook groups of other owners or residents in the community and your Realtor.  Your Realtor wants your repeat business and referrals so they will most likely only recommend someone good and they should also know people in the area.  We have been able to get a lot of good information from our owner's Facebook group- everything from cleaning companies to great restaurants to try.  Good luck!

    Hi Steve,

    There are a lot of great answers in this thread. Facebook groups and turnover-bnb can be good resources. 


    Personally, we have found the best luck by getting direct recommendations. Network with other owners in your market, they can refer the highest quality vendors. They typically have first-hand experience sorting through bad or overpriced cleaners. Most people don't try to gatekeep good cleaners, especially if your property is nearby, it'll help them scale their company.

You can find cleaners, see cleaner reviews, schedule cleanings and manage payments all through the app. It also syncs with many of the top Property Management Softwares so that cleanings will automatically be added to your schedule when you get a booking.
