Murphy Bed, cash-booster or liability?

Question

Has anyone had any success with a murphy bed such as this one? I'm considering putting one in a living room, and I'm wondering if they are viable or are a liability.

I own a few Murphy beds in my STR's and they have been great in providing an extra sleeping space.  The Murphy beds that I own are up against walls/areas where a sofa-bed would not be a good choice.  My preference is sofa-beds as they provide a dual purpose (Sit & Sleep), however, there are walls/spaces where a sofa-bed isn't aesthetically pleasing.

When you said Murphy bed I was thinking of the old school traditional kind that you actually have to reach up and pull out of the wall downward. This one looks more like it just slides out and can't fall on anybody. Personally I would be less concerned about this because it doesn't look like something that can fall out of the wall on top of somebody

@Garrett Gruss  true murphy beds that pull down are very easy to operate and much more comfortable then a sofa bed.   I haven't had ours come down on anyone and they are light to get down but stay in position when not in use. Easier to operate then any sofa bed I have had.  They have to be secured to the wall.  If you have a cabinet bed with a split or matress not sure how comfortable that is but could be just as good.   I can't reccommend a brand because we built ours from a kit.  Not sure it ups your $ more then a sofa bed but it is more comfortable.

I guess it is a liability, but so is everything if you think about it too much. If you're worried about the safety of a murphy bed, maybe consider a cabinet murphy bed. They do not come out from the wall and therefore, could lead to far fewer injuries.

I'm one of those folks as well. The only reason why we did it was because we had a studio and was trying to provide options to open up the space.

We have a murphy bed in one of our units. It was a pain the ass initially. Getting it installed correctly, stabilized etc. We wound up building cabinets around it to ensure it was secure, but its been serving us well since we launched and people love it.

I’m furnishing my STR right now, and wanted to get one of those. But I had unexpected expenses and have put it on hold till next year. I did not like that that one has the latches on the side visible when closed. I was going to buy an Arason Brussels or Essex, which have more style and are simple to open. https://cabinetmurphybed.com/p...The main thing is how easy it is for the guest to open. I do like that this option does not limit me to the small selection of sofa beds available - I can buy whatever sofa I want. Also, sofa bed frames are notorious for getting ruined by kids jumping on them. Cabinet beds should hold up better.
