Alternatives to Fines
I manange a relatively small apartment complex close to a university, so basically I run a dorm. The classic way of handling issues is to hand out fines or threaten eviction. I hate to give out fines though because between tuition and rent, their expenses are already far greater than any income they might have, and as far as eviction goes I obviously want to keep my tenants. Ultimately what I want is my duckies in a row, not to charge them money they don't have, or make them worried about being thrown out.
So I have been brainstorming possible consequences that aren't monetary. So it would go something like this, you drove through the lawn because you didn't want to have to wait at the stop sign. Ok, you have the option of either paying a fine OR as an alternative, you don't have to pay the fine, but I will instead boot your car so you can't drive it for a set period of time. Say they do something else, well instead of fining them or threatening eviction, why don't I just use the web filter to block all games, entertainment, explicit content, etc, until they comply.
What do you think, are these good ideas or am I just crazy? Do you have any other suggestions for fine alternatives?
