Minnesota Eviction Moratorium

If anyone else is frustrated with the current eviction moratorium in Minnesota, I would encourage you to write a letter (as I did) to Governor Tim Walz.  It may not do any good, but the action was good therapy.

The current State of emergency is set to expire September 11th.  I'm hoping the eviction moratorium would be reviewed at that time.

My point in the letter is that the moratorium is not needed because the people who were impacted by covid are receiving unemployment plus $600 per week.  The moratorium is creating freeloaders and leaving landlords without recourse.

Here is the address of the governor:

Governor Tim Walz
130 State Capitol
75 Rev Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
St. Paul, MN 55155

@Tim Johnson no snarkiness meant in this but are you aware how many times the MN legislature has attempted to stop Walz from extending the Emergency Powers? I think we are on failed attempt 8 or 9 now...... I am 95% certain it will be extended, yet again. And if extended into October that's it, done, it WILL be extended into March because no-way will he lift it during winter, zero.

And read the exact words they selected, remember they are politicians, every thing they do has a purpose and most often it is to shift blame. The exact wording has it in such a way where there is nothing more to be done, it's tied to the Emergency Order:
"this Executive Order is effective immediately upon approval by the Executive Council. It remains in
effect until the peacetime emergency declared in Executive Order 20-01 is terminated
or until it
is rescinded by proper authority."

Catch that last line? They even thought of legislature or anyone going court route trying to stop it. We can't even sue for an injunction.

The #1 way to get this addressed, Property Tax Moratorium! No ability to control tenancy or rents, ok fine, screw your tax! I guarantee if landlords banned together in that everything would change in the blink of an eye. And remember, you can go what, 2 years without paying property tax before they can take actions? How long can the cities go without that $ before it hit's them, 2 hours? How long can Walz go with the cities screaming at him to either fund the cities or change the order?

Aaaah, if if's and but's were were's and what's............
