Anyone recommend Debt Collector/Skip Tracer for a significant Judgement

We evicted some problem tenants back in 2010 from a house we rent out. Well after a long eviction and court fees we received a Judgement of about $15,000.

The lawyer wanted 50% to try to collect the fees.

I wanted to go about it myself since it's such a significant amount. Just pay a la cart for serving papers, locating, etc. Anyone have recommendations on debt collectors, skip tracers etc?

Anyways any suggestions on how I can track them down or the best way to collect? I was thinking of a skip tracer to at least locate them so we can serve them etc. Has anyone completed an Abstract of Judgement?

I figure once it has been recorded maybe they'll try to pay it or contact me, so the Abstract of Judgement would be the first step. Judgements in California last 10 years and you can renew them for another 10 years.

Replied

Will,

I am in the debt and process server business. Just run a skip on them and have the skip company look for assets. Once you know what they own then get a writ that allows you to repo it.

Find a process serving company that uses GPS location and photos of service. Ask the server to take pics of the assets outside of the residence. They can give you the license plates as well.

Make sure you keep the judgement current as well. The 50% collection sounds really high to me. The best way to find a great collection agency would be to go to the NARCA website. Do a search by state. That should give you a solid list of companies.

If you need additional help then just PM me.
