Bristol, CT good for rental properties?

Hi everyone,

I am located in NJ right by the George Washington bridge. So I know nothing about Connecticut. My fiancé is going to graduate from college next Year and is looking for a job at ESPN. I have a couple of questions regarding Bristol,CT. Is it safe? Why is it so cheap? How are the school systems? Has anyone had any luck owning rental properties in Bristol? Do you recommend getting a rental property in a town close by?(I prefer a town more south of Bristol) Thanks so much!

@Victoria James I have 12 units of rentals in Bristol. The town like any others has good and bad spots.  I am looking to grow my rentals in the town. If this is a house hack the Southington is closer to the highway, has a nice walking biking trail, and good schools. For investments I would do Bristol.

We manage some units in Bristol. Generally speaking you want to stay out of downtown Bristol, as that is where you will run into the most "riff raff", if you will. The closer to the outskirts of the town, the better it will get. Rents seem to be underperforming in Bristol vs the rest of Hartford county, but price points are also lower, so there is that. I just now realized that this post is over a year old. Well, this is weird now!

@Victoria James I live in the area and I agree with William. Southington will be more expensive but it's a bit nicer than Bristol overall. Of course not town is perfect and Southington has had it's share of car thefts lately.

Federal hill is a nice area for multis and SFH too-I house hack a 2-family here. Chippens hill is also nice for SFH. Some blight in the city, but quiet and save overall. I use the link below for data on CT towns, you'll see for what you pay it's definitely worth looking into.
