Rental Increase Notice
Hello everyone! In California you are required to provide 30 days notice to raise rent if it is less than 10 percent of the rent being charged and 60 days notice if it is being raised more than 10 percent of the rent charge.
My question is, do they mean 10 percent rent increased Monthly or Annually?
For example if the rent is $1,000 and 10 percent of $1,000 is $100.
According to the law, I would need to provide 60 days notice if I increase the Monthly rent over $100/10 percent?
And only 30 days notice if I increase less than $100 per month?
Or do they mean no more than 10 percent for the whole year? i.e. 10 percent of 1,000 is $100 and $100 divided by 12 month is $8.33. Which means I could only increase the rent by $8.33 per month per year?
Can someone who knows this law please help clarify?
Thank you!
