Maryland Tenant Liability for Pets

I have a single family townhome in Frederick, Maryland and have an applicant with an Italian Mastiff. Our property manager has told us that in the state of Maryland, tenants are held strictly liable for their pets.

Does anyone have experience with this or know if it's true? A quick google search yields mixed results on the liability in Maryland. If the tenant's dog were to bite someone, could any liability fall to us?

We are also checking in with our insurance carrier but wanted to see if any local investors have an opinion or advice on the topic. Thanks!
