Adding Apartment Letters or Numbers

I am currently renovating an old house into a 3 plex. I need to add apartment letters or numbers to the address. Other than contacting USPS, is there something I need to do at the municiple level? The property is in a city in Michigan in case that matters.

    @Loren Souers

    In Metro Detroit area, it's always finger-pointing between City, USPS and local utility company.

    Recommend getting info from all 3 IN WRITING for accountability:)
