Where to find Eviction Records in Ohio

Hi BP Community,

I'm wondering if there's a website where I could view the eviction file record that's currently in progress in Ohio Cleveland? My PM told me that their attorney filed the eviction complaint on Nov 16th, but I'm still waiting for the hearing date. Does it usually take this long to get a court date? Does anyone know where I could confirm when the complaint was filed? Thank you guys!

Unfortunately, there is no publicly available website that allows you to view eviction file records in Ohio Cleveland. However, you can contact the Clerk of Courts in the county where the eviction is taking place and request access to the eviction file records.

It takes a while for stuff to get recorded. But states such as Cali, Oregon, and Wash, have removed eviction and other data from public websites, seems about a year or two  ago they started. You can probably find it  if you go to the courthouse and use their in-house computers. It seems to have become policy to make it as difficult as possible to find out that your applicant is a bum. Especially since you the landlord are really "the evil one".  Just read the Seattle times or the NY Times to find out about these unscrupulous landlords who think they're entitled to receive rent. How dare they! And then they have the gall to want a tenant that's never been evicted!! Yup, better hide those eviction records... They're there, you just gotta dig a little.  Don't sign until you know they're squeaky clean.

That is normal. It takes forever in Cleveland and even when you get a hearing date that does not mean the hearing will go smoothly. The judge could throw it out for bad service, 3-day notice not completed correctly, tenant did not have enough notice....it is ridiculous and increasingly more difficult to evict in the City of Cleveland.

States and Counties may have differences. Where I live in NC, I can go into the public records room at our courthouse, and search their internal data base. In the database you can search using a persons name and birthday. Usually this gives you a short list to skim looking to see if a tenant or potential tenant has ever been involved, or is currently involved, in an eviction proceeding (or other matter).

You should be able to call the local courthouse and find that info. It looks like you need to call Cleveland Housing Court.

Yes, unfortunately, it does take several weeks to get a hearing date in Cleveland court.  We just got our dates a few days ago.  Here is the website to find your docket.
