@Shravanthi Denthumdas

I recommend finding an accountant who specializes in real estate taxation, tax planning and financial planning. Yes, we exist.

You may want to consider working with your accountant remotely to expand your options.

I would also recommend looking for a accountant willing to work with you throughout the year. You want an accountant who can help you strategize and who is responsive when you want to know the consequences of the financial decisions you are making throughout the year.

Good luck.

 Hello @Shravanthi Denthumdas, I would checkout the tax forum here and see which accountants are providing real value to people answering questions. avoid spammers who post generic nonsense like "I recommend an accountant for this issue, oh by the way I'm an accountant". As accountants we cant promote ourselves as its against BP rules, so we provide as much free value as possible in the hopes that some people will consider working with us when we have available time for new clients.

If you have a STR that you self-manage, you may potentially be able to treat the activity as 'active' instead of 'passive'.

If the activity is treated as active, you will be able to offset the losses against other forms of income such as wages, interest and dividends.

Best of luck.

 Hey @Shravanthi Denthumdas

I would recommend you check taxwisecorp.com and see if it makes sense. Working with real estate investors doing the STR loophole is what we are known for and can help at a reasonable rate.
