Personal Accounting Software?
Howdy all,
I'm looking for suggestions on software to keep my personal finances in order.
My rental accounting sits within a property management system (Rentec). It only really does income and expense reporting, no balance sheet. Not ideal, but reasonably adequate for tax purposes.
I have various co-ownership arrangements and will have properties that have owner-occupancy (I'm under contract on a house that I will use as my primary residence that has a legal apartment in the basement). I anticipate that it may be impractical to prevent expenses from commingling on that one.
I also find that, over the course of the year, I incur business expenses that are not related to any particular owned property. For example, legal advice, tax preparation inspections on properties that I do not buy, etc. These end up on a personal card or check. Come tax time, I find myself reconstructing expenses. It's an inefficient use of time and I likely end up missing deductions.
I'm looking for a software solution to keep track of this that can accommodate certain considerations:
1. I don't want to duplicate effort having to track expenses both within my PMS and in the personal accounting software.
2. I work in spreadsheets professionally and would value the ability to import transactions from excel.
3. I'd prefer to be able to electronically connect to all accounts including credit cards.
4. I need to be able to easily flag items as tax deductible
5. I'd like the ability to write custom reports.
Anyone out there using something that checks off these boxes?
Thanks in advance for your help!
