For those with a Solo 401 (k), what banks are you using? 

Any tips on funding or setting things up?

If he has a truly self-directed Solo 401k plan then the bank or the brokerage does not dictate investment choices, this plan allows you to invest into virtually anything and which is permitted in the plan documents. Of course you must abide by the IRS rules to stay away from "prohibited transactions".

We recommend Solera bank, Solo 401k bank accounts are their specialty, they have a department dedicated to 401k/IRA clients. Reach out to @Kreighton Reed VP of the bank, he can provide you with further help.
