Help! Two foreigners trying to navigate LLCs in NYC!!

Hello all,

My husband and I have signed contracts on an apartment in New York that we want to rent out. We are not resident in the US and are floundering somewhat in the legal and financial quagmires of the system. Despite paying for much advice, things don't appear to be much clearer. Here are a couple of questions we have, that we'd love to get peoples' advice on:

1) Is it free to transfer a property to an LLC after it is bought? (We can't get the paperwork sorted before closing as we don't have tax numbers yet).

2) We're want an LLC for protection of our assets (overseas) and have had a lot of conflicting info on where to get them. We were going to get one in Delaware because according to a very senior accountant you don't need to give the owners' names in Delaware, and it's fast to get one. But another lawyer just said we would be better to get one in New York, if it's for a New York apartment.

We are now VERY confused!!

Thank you for your help...

Amy
