Recommendation for tax strategist pro

Tzvi Keisar
Posted

Anyone worked with a tax strategist they can recommend? I'm particularly interested in the following areas:

* offsetting ordinary (w2) income with bonus depreciation (with cost seg) on RE investments as REP

* 1031 exchange

I already read a lot on those subjects, but I still have questions, so I need someone with lots of patience to listen and answer my questions.

Appreciate your help!

If you are claiming Real Estate Professioanl Status(REPS), it is important to keep a log of your activities.

Regarding a 1031 exchange, it is important to have a conversation with your accountant prior to getting it done. I have seen instances where a 1031 exchange was not required such as
1) The overall gain from the sale of the investment property was very small or even negative
2) The taxpayer had enough passive loss carryforwards to offset the gain.

A 1031 exchange is a very powerful tool put it has to make sense before going forward.
