Deduction/Depreciation on owner occupied

Madison Giese
Posted

I’m preparing my end of the year taxes and wanted some advice. Can I not deduct or depreciate maintenance or remodel/upgrade costs to the unit I am living in. I am nearing the end of year one as I purchased December 30th 2020. It’s a triplex and the unit I’m in is roughly 25% of the total livable space. If I can’t deduct or depreciate expenses for my unit can I start depreciating next year when I move on to the next house hack and would i prorate that depreciation? Thanx in advance
