I buddy of mine has ask if I would be willing to invest $20,000 so that he can finish a new house he has been building. That house is near completion. 

If I choose to invest how do I protect my investment and are is there information I need to know to protect myself?

Of course, you need to know if there is already an existing mtg, which would be ahead of you.
