Why is it that I never hear anyone ever talk about renting out townhouses? Are their pitfalls that I’m not able to see?

Townhouses are built like duplexes but where you get both doors when you buy a duplex, townhouses sell as individual properties. So you share a wall but no equity. That's my reason for not even considering Townhouses. If I needed a second reason, I'd point to the challenge of selling a townhouse, especially in an economic downturn. People who want houses prefer privacy, so you have a smaller pool of potential buyers.
