Permitted additional room / poor construction

Posted

Purchased a property with a permitted additional bedroom on the second floor. Although permitted, the work seems very poor. The room is held up by 5 wood piers that are awkwardly placed. Can a permitted room have poor construction ? When it’s permitted does the city come to verify the quality of work. My real estate agent failed to mention this. The more I look  at it the more I get worried. Home owners insurance also visited the property and didn’t make issue. Don’t know if that has any impact.

Hi Frederick,

Typically if work is permitted, a city/county official will come out and inspect the work in person. If you have doubts about the quality of construction, I would recommend getting a home inspector or even better, a contractor out there to look at the build.
