Buying bank notes in default or pre-foreclosure

For those of you in this arena, what are lenders typically doing about back property taxes and interest owed by borrower? Are they looking for re-imbursement from a note buyer? If not, do these back due amounts attach to the note face value purchased as still being owed by borrower?
